Manali bags favourite Hill destination outlook award for 2010

Shimla, Jan 29: Himachal Pradesh’s tourist haven Manali, has bagged Outlook Magazine favourite hill destination Travellers Award for 2010. Himachal got ‘Favourite Hill Destination – Manali’; ‘Outlook Travellers Award – 2010’ and ‘Favourite Adventure Destination’, National Level Awards, which would be presented at New Delhi to the State today.

Complementing people of the state, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said to media persons here today that three more Awards in the Tourism Sector by the Outlook Magazine, on the basis of survey conducted of all the tourism destinations of the country by Nielson, will be awarded to the state. He congratulated the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation for making rapid strides on tourism promotion sector and winning more number of National Level Awards to the State.

Himachal Pradesh registered footfall of about 1.40 Crore tourists in the state annually, most of them opting Manali and Shimla beside Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Kasuli, Chail, Narkanda and Kufri witness tourits round the year. Tourism provides livelihood to many in the hill state and contributes to 8-9 percent to state GDP.
