HP cabinet quashes six hydel projects

Shimla (Jan 29): Himachal Pradesh cabinet today cancelled six micro hydal power project after they failed to submit upfront money. These projects include Raula (1.25 MW), Pher (1.75 MW), Nalian (0.80 MW), Bourar (0.40 MW), Mallan (1.00 MW) and Uhl-II (1.00 MW).

The Cabinet approved constitution of a sub-committee under the chairmanship of revenue minister Gulab Singh to submit recommendations regarding implementation of Constitution (85th Amendment) Act, 2001, and assignment of seniority to SC & ST government servants on promotion by virtue of rule of reservation/roster.

In an endeavour to make Himachal Pradesh ‘polythene-free’, it decided to impose ban on storage and use of non-biodegradable disposable plastic products i.e. plastic cups, plates and glasses etc. in the state from August 15, 2011 and any offence committed shall be liable to get fined Rs 5,000 for littering of non-biodegradable waste by any institution/commercial establishment and Rs 1,000 for littering of non-biodegradable waste by individuals in the premises of any private or commercial establishments.

It approved naming of Reckong Peo Chowk in the name of late Shri Thakur Sen Negi as ‘Thakur Sen Negi Chowk’. It also accepted the proposal to enhance VAT on tobacco and tobacco products from 13.75 per cent to 16 per cent and bring ‘beedies’ under goods taxable at special rate under new Schedule ‘E’ of HP VAT Act, 2005. It also granted approval to amendment in Himachal Pradesh Lokayukta Act, 1983.
