1000 MW Karcham Wangtoo project to be partly ready by March

Shimla: Private Sector 1000 MW Karcham Wangtoo project coming up on the Satluj river will be partly ready to commission by March this year, project official disclosed here today. Operated by JP company, the first unit on Satluj Basin is ready to commission 250 MW turbine to roll by March this year and the other three units are scheduled to begin by June.

According to an executive officer of the firm, Karcham Wangtoo JP Power venture with a cost of about Rs 7000 crore is run of the river generation project span from the confluence of Baspa and Satluj River. He further said that it has been dammed at Karcham in Kinnaur district of Himachal and from there its water is being diverted through a tunnel to generate electricity in the underground powerhouse at Wangtoo. The firm operates 300 MW Bapsa project on the upstream of Baspa river, which got commissioned in June 2003 with cost of Rs 1624.72 crores. It also operates 400 MW Vishnuprayag project in the state of Uttrakhand.
