Dharamsala (Jan 27): International currency to the tune of many crores of rupees has been recovered from Karmapa’s monastery in Dharamsala and Mahatpur near Una, and three persons were arrested in this regard during a raid conducted by a joint team comprising Una and Kangra police.

IG (north range) PL Thakur said the three persons include a Tibetan from Ladakh and two Indians from Kangra. He said that German, US, Chinese and Indian currency were seized during raids. He said that the arrested accuseds were identified as Ashutosh and Sanjay from Phatyar villages in Kangra district and Rupki Chasuni from Ladakh.
However, he denied involvement of Tibetan 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje in any way.

As raids were being continuing, police said it was too early to comment about the crime being purely a violation of laws dealing with international currency or whether there was some other aspect to it as well. Sources said documents dealing with some land deals too have reportedly been seized.

  1. Why police are raiding monks and finding 400,000 Rs. There are crores of Rupees stacked in politicians (including cabinet ministers), bureaucrats and business people’s home.  If police has nay courage, go after these people not monks.
