Price Index shoots up by 11points

Shimla: All-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural labourers and rural labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for December, 2010 increased by 11 points each to stand at 581 points for agricultural labourers and 580 points for rural labourers.

The rise in index varied from state to state. In case of agricultural labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 to 22 points in 19 States and remained stationary in one state. Haryana with 642 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 486 points stood at the bottom. In case of rural labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 to 22 points in 19 States and remained stationary in one state. Haryana with 637 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 504 points stood at the bottom.

The consumer price index numbers for agricultural labourers and rural labourers in respect of Gujarat state registered the maximum increase of 22 points mainly due to increase in the prices of bajra atta, groundnut oil, milk, onion, chillies dry, garlic, vegetables & fruits, bidi, firewood and barbar charges. Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 7.14 percent and 6.95 percent respectively in November, 2010 to 7.99 percent and 8.01 percent in December, 2010. Respective rates of inflation during December, 2009 were 17.21 percent and 16.99 percent.
