Snowfall continues to disrupt normal life

    Shimla (Jan 17) While, high reaches of Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall since this afternoon, normal life in various parts of the state continued to be disrupted.

    A government spokesperson said that no bus of the state-run transport corporation has been plying in upper Shimla and a number of the buses were stranded in the snowy way since Saturday evening. A large number of vehicles were stuck in snow between Kufri and Narkanda.

    Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state at a minimum temperature of minus 14.9 degrees Celsius.
    Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 5.4 degrees.

    Shimla’s minimum temperature stood at 2.3 degrees Celsius, a lot warmer than Sunday’s minus 3.3 degrees.

    Dharamsala recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees while the minimum temperature in Bhuntar was 0.3 degree and Solan 0.6 degree and Palampur 1 degree Celsius.

    Maximum temperature of Shimla was 7.9 degrees, Bhuntar 8.2 degrees, Mandi and Sundernagar 9 degrees each, Nahan 12.8 degrees, Dharamshala 13.2 degrees, Una and Solan 14.2 degrees respectively.

    Meanwhile, three days after the snowfall taps and pipes remained blocked as night temperature further plunged in most of the snow affected areas in the state leading scarcity of drinking water.

    Water in the taps of residential areas located in Shimla’s US Club, Sanjauli, Kaithu, Nabha and Dhali and Jakhu hills remained frozen throughout the day due to the extreme cold conditions.

    Water supply to snowbound areas like Keylong, Manali, Pangi, Kalpa,Theog, Narkanda, Kufri has been also affected and could not be restored forcing people to melt snow and carrying water from natural water sources.

    The official of Public work departments in this capital town were seen restoring water supply after using fire burners to restore pipes and taps.

    As maximum temperature remained confined to 7 degrees in this capital town today despite sunshine it did not ease out the affected people to get water supply even second consecutive day today.
    The Upper reaches of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti and Chamba experienced fresh spell of snowfall as 13050 ft high Rohtang Pass, Koksar and Keylong registered snowfall that continued since this afternoon.

    District Information Officer Lahaul Spit, Sher Singh said Keylong has recorded 7 cm snowfall and it was still continuing. He said that high reaches of district was also receiving snowfall.

    According to latest report arriving the high reaches of district like Solang Nalah, Mari and Jalori Jot was also experiencing snowfall.

    Pangi subdivision of Chamba district also was experiencing snowfall, 10 cm of snow was recorded while it was still continuing. However, there is no report of snowfall from any other part of state but vehicular traffic on Hindustan-Tibet Highway remained suspended for fourth day today, as snow could not be cleared by the State Public Work Department.

    Many areas of Kinnuar, Chamba, Shimla and Lahaul Spiti district were still cut off from the rest of the state as vehicles or HRTC buses could not ply on the snowy road, however state authorities were claiming that snow cutters were being pressed into clearing operation.
    Met office said upper reaches of state likely to have rain or snowfall during next 24 hrs however rest of state to be dry.
