Shimla (Jan 14): Thousands of pilgrims today took holy dip in the natural hot water springs of Tatapani and Manikaran in the hill state on the occasion of Makarsakranti as it is considered auspicious to bathe on this day in these pilgrim centers.

Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Palah village, told HimVani that more than 10,000 devotees are expected to throng and take holy bath at Tatapani and a number of them started pouring since early morning itself. He said that many among them also performed ‘Tula Dan’ (donating grains equal to their weight), considered auspicious on the occasion.

A report received from Kullu said that hot water springs at Manikaran, were also visited by a large number of people and pilgrims. Report from Nahan said that at the famous Renuka Lake, braving icy cold wave, a large numbers of devotees from the hill state as well as neighboring Punjab and Haryana had been taking a dip in the lake since morning. The lake is also visited by a number of migratory birds that come here during winters.

Lohri and Makkar Sankranti is being celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety throughout the state as people were seen making bonfires on the streets in Shimla and other towns, offering Lohri in the fire.
