Maharashtra bags 9 golds in 7th National Ice Skating Championship

Shimla: Maharashtra’s skaters today emerged victorious in 9 out of 18 events followed by Delhi with four golds and J& k placed 3rd with three in 7th National Ice Skating Championship held at famous Ice Skating Ring from Jan 3 to 5. Maharashtra’s Reha Chandwani was declared the best skater in figure skating sub junior girls, Subodh Patil was declared best speed skater in senior Men 500 mts event, Sumit Tapik in speed skating sub junior boys 500mts, Varsha Kukreja in speed skating sub junior girls 500mts, Sohan Tarkaaar in speed junior boys 500mts and 1000mts event, Shruti Kotwal in speeding ladies 500 mts and speed woman 1000mts and Subodh Patil in Speed skating 1000mts. Dehli’s Nishay Luthra in figure subjunior boys, Samrita Sahney in figure ladies, Vasu Dev Tandi in figure men, Yogesh & Simrita in figure senior pair category.

J& k’s Sabina Kasuar in figure junior girls, Padma Chorol in speedk junior girls 500mts and Dishkit C Angma in speed junior girls 1000mts, while 2nd and 3rd place went to Padama Chorol and Shabina Kasuar respectively. Hosts Himachal Pradesh remained on fourth place, getting figure junior boys and figure junior to Aditya Kumar and Gurneet & Janpeet. Chief Guest Rajya Sabha MP from Shimla Bimla Kashyap decorated the winners with medals. She also announced grant of Rs2 lakh for betterment of Shimla Ice Skating Club. More than 100 leading skaters form 11 states took part in the event in which Ami Parekh imparted training to Ice figure skaters. She is international ice figure skating competitor and coach. She is only such artist and adventurer who can perform Bharat Natyam on Ice. Other states that participated in the event were Uttrakhand, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Andhara Pradesh.
