Himachal U-19 team defeats Mumbai, enters Cooch Behar semis

Shimla (Jan 6): In a major achievement for Himachal cricket, the state under-19 team defeated Mumbai by six runs in the Cooch Behar Elite group tournament to enter semi-finals.

Himachal won the toss and elected to bat. Anchored by a marathon innings by NR Gangta, who made 146, the team managed to pile up a respectable score of 333 runs. AR Kalsi (77) and PS Chopra (34) were other major contributors in the first innings. In reply, Mumbai were folded up for 177, with some excellent bowling by
Rahul Singh (3) and AP Vashisth (3).

Mumbai bounced back into the game in the second innings by restricting Himachal to 171. PS Chopra (57) was the top scorer for the team. But Himachal bowlers once again showed class to fold up the Mumbaikars for 321. SJ Malhotra claimed two wickets, Rahul Singh three and RS Kolish al three.
