Construction to be frozen in New Shimla

    Shimla (Dec 24) Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister, Prem Kumar Dhumal has directed the authorities to stop congesting New Shimla township, by checking unplanned and irrational construction activities taking place in different sectors.

    Directions to this effect were passed to the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary Housing on the request of a deputation of Residents Welfare Association of Phase III, New Shimla, who called on the Chief Minister with their grievances here today.

    Proper development and planning of the new townships was required to be ensured before allowing any construction activity in the new areas which was not adhered to by implementing authorities in above case.

    New Shimla was initially developed as a satellite town to decongest the main town of increasing population opting for permanent settlement in Shimla.

    Initially proper planned roadmap was approved for the development of the new township which had been violated very often resulting into present state of the area.

    Prof. Dhumal directed the HIMUDA authorities not to permit sale and allow construction of retaining walls, corners etc. and freeze the sale activities immediately at the present level to stop further degradation and congestion of the entire New Shimla.

    He also directed concerned authorities to check any illegal construction taking place in the area and ensure that construction activities were restricted to the approved plan.

    He said that the local authorities also needed to check that no slums were developing in the area and best civic amenities were available to the residents. He also appealed to the residents of the area to extend their cooperation in maintenance of cleanliness in their surroundings.
