Shimla (Dec 5): Running in its sixth reprint and having made it into the best-category list, Ghost Stories of Shimla Hills will soon be available in its second volume. Thrilled by the resounding success of the first book, having sold more than 5,000 copies, and mainly in response to numerous queries by readers, especially young people, author Minakshi Chaudhry is now working on the second collection of ghost stories, which will hit book stores next year.

Real, strange and eerie tales which were not included in the Ghost Stories of Shimla Hills will be part of the forthcoming book. “The first book encouraged many readers to get in touch with me to share their personal experiences of spooky and paranormal incidents in and around Shimla. These stories had till now, like the ones in the first book, only circulated in closed groups. Many unknown and shy protagonists of these stories have already found way into the second collection of ghost stories and their stories comprise a major part of the book. But I am sure there are more stories around us and more people who want to narrate. I am inviting more people to come in touch with me to gazette their experiences,” said the author.

The book, Ghost Stories of Shimla Hills, has numerous stories and tales about ghosts and spirits in Shimla and its surrounding areas. These stories are real and based on people’s encounters and experiences with the supernatural. The stories in the book include story about a British witch (Angrez Churail), the woman whose family is known as Bhootwallahs, the girl who had a premonition that she will die in Shimla, the spirit of a local girl who takes revenge of her murder by an Englishman, the Ghost on the Railway Line and other haunted roads and bowris. These stories throw light on the cultural, religious and supernatural aspects of hill people. Their beliefs and their ways of relating to the supernatural beings have been studied in the stories.

The author has invited people to share their experiences with her to be included in the book. She can be contacted at 0177 2621754; and minakshi_kanwar@yahoo.com
