State agency usurped Rs 1 cr bonus medicines: CPiM

Shimla: State unit of CPIM has alleged that RTI revelation has exposed the pro-people face of state government by depriving commons patients over thier due stake on the free medicines. State Secretariat member of CPIM Tekinder Singh Panwar alleged that recent revelations made out under the Right to Information Act (RTI) by the party activist has thoroughly exposed it and has lifted the veil from its face. “The government’s Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation (HPSCSC) has usurped more than Rs1 crore under the bonus medicines scheme in just one year that could have been passed to the common patients thus reducing the cost of the drugs substantially”, Panwar alleged.

He also said that the bonus medicines are provided by the respective companies to various retailers including the HPSCSC that run medicine shops in and around the various government hospitals in the state. This scheme of bonus medicines is provided by almost all the companies dealing in drugs manufacturing and vary with place and time. The CPIM has stated that a whopping Rs56,82,755 worth medicines in 7 districts were not passed onto the common patients but were usurped by the HPSCSC. According to the RTI, the amount of Rs 28,59,871 was issued under the bonus scheme by pharma houses, but were not utilised in Shimla district, Rs21,15,247 by Kangra district, Rs.3,45,104 by Mandi. Rs.1,59,650 by Chamba, 1,10,910 by Sirmour. Rs.75,713 by Una and Rs.16,260 by Hamirpur, respectively. This amount pertains to just 10 months and that too for 7 districts out of 12. According to estimates nearly Rs1 crore have been swindled through.
