Himachal government to strictly enforce environmental laws in developmental projects

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government will strictly enforce the Forest Conservations Act and Environmental Laws for various hydel electric and developmental projects being commissioned in the State. It was stated by Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister in a meeting with Union Environmental and Forest Minister, Jai Ram Ramesh at New Delhi today.

He said that state government has taken utmost care while implementing eco-tourism projects in the state and added that no new structure or construction had been carried out in the forest areas under various eco-tourism project. He explained in detail the status of various projects which are pending for environmental clearance with the union government and pleaded for early environmental clearances so as the economic activity was speeded up in the state. Union minister asked the state government to supply the additional information about these projects so as their clearances could be provided. He took positive note of the state government projects and assured that central government would provide all necessary help and assistance for developing the State as model hill state in environmental protection.
