Leaving animals astray to be made cognizable offence

Shimla: State government would soon enact a law to punish those who leave their animals astray. It would be made a cognizable offence with provisions of fine and other punitive punishment. He was speaking on the occasion of foundation stone laying ceremony of ‘Gaushala Bhawan’ to be named as ‘Kamdhenu Bhawan’ at Jamli and dedication of ‘Narayan Bhawan’ at Jamli in Hamirpur. Chief Minister said that to leave animals astray was cruelty against them and contrary to the moral values and heritage of the country. He also said that dairy farming had vast potential of income generation and people needed to adopt animal husbandry as their income generating avocation.

  1. It is VEETEE but there are issues on ground. People are not willing to take up Animal Husbandry as they are not sure what to do with old animals. There are not enough facilities by the Government to provide shelter to such animals. Plus for a marginal farmer it becomes extremely difficult to feed such animals as there is increasing problem of availability of fodder in the state.

  3. totally agree with you varun. it has to be implemented at all levels for it to succeed. farmers who cant afford to keep animals that are not brining in any income shouldn't be forced to do so. ideas anyone?
