CPI-M stages massive rally in Shimla supporting Dalit rights

Shimla: State Unit of CPI-M today held a massive rally on the issue of Dalit rights at Shimla. Thousands of party activists gathered in a rally at Chaura Maidan as they brought procession that earlier commenced from Panchayat Bhawan. While addressing the gathering Tikender Panwar stated that party had conducted a comprehensive survey in the state on the different forms of social discrimination being practiced. Over 35 thousand households were covered. More than 50 forms of social discrimination has been underlined. He further asked the government to implement the constitutional with strict vigilance and ensure that social atrocity cases are dealt with severely. Party’s central committee member, Rakesh Singha stated that struggle has to be carried forward and because of various texts that have got religious sanction the social discrimination has become legitimized. This has to be fought he stated. He gave a further call to hold a massive state level convention at Mandi on 6th February 2011. This convention will be a broad based front to fight social discrimination.
