1.08 quintal charas sized in Chamba during special drives

Chamba (Nov 13): During special derives launched by Chamba Police, about 1.08 quintal illicit charas consignment was recovered in the district recently, senior police official said.

While talking to HimVani, SP Chamba Madhu Sundan Sharma said that consignments of more than 1.08 quintal charas and other contraband products were seized in narcotics-inflected areas of district and a number of big fishes and drug peddlers were trapped in the last few days.

Disclosing that police destroyed illicit cultivation of cannabis farming from hundreds of acres of land in the district, the SP pointed out that national flagship program MNREGA has been proving boon to check illicit cultivation of cannabis in the district as people are getting more employment opportunities in the rural areas and many of them who were earlier reported to indulge in this illicit trade have switched over to MNREGA.

He said that the administration was taking assistance from gram panchayats, Nav Yuvak Mandals and Mahila Mandals to control the menace.
