Shimla (Oct 29): Municipal Corporation Shimla lacks funding to come out with new public parks and playgrounds in the city despite having requisite land for the same. This was stated by the MC counsel while replying before a division bench of Himachal Pradesh High Court hearing on a PIL initiated by court, taking suo-motu action of a letter written to the Chief Justice by class eight student.

The division bench of Himachal Pradesh High Court comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice VK Sharma heard the MC reply on Thursday. Counsel for the respondent (MC), Shrawan Dogra, submitted before the DB that there were different places which could be developed into children park, public park or playground by the MC, but it lacks sufficient funding.

After hearing the submission, the bench ordered the state government (another respondent in the case) to file its reply within three weeks and clear its stand on the submission of MC to make provisions for funds. Meanwhile, MC also suggested that some dumping cites and others places could be converted into children parks or playground as MC may not have any objection to it.
