Abhishek Bachchan to attend unveiling ceremony of giant Hanuman statue

Shimla (Oct 26): Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan would attend the unveiling ceremony of a 108-ft-tall statue of Lord Hanuman, installed atop the 8,500-ft-high Jakhu hill in Shimla.

Talking to media persons here today, deputy commissioner JS Rana informed that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar would inaugurated the statue on November 4 on the occasion of Hunuman Jayanti. He said Abhishek, who is member of HC Nanda Trust that has contributed in constructing the statue, would remain present on this occasion to witness the event.

Officials claimed it to be world’s tallest statue at this height, and third tallest in India as two others, one of Hanuman (135 ft. long) at Andhra Pradesh and second of Padam Sambhava (118 ft.) in Sikkim are there in the country.

The DC, who is also chairman of Jakhu Temple Trust, said that land was provided free of cost to built the statue, which would be visible from a distance of around 20 km. Meanwhile, nature lovers are terming it a scar on the natural beauty of Jakhu hill as there is already an ancient Hanuman temple at Jakhu.
