Dharamsala (Oct 9): The town is all set to celebrate Global Day of Climate Action on Sunday (10/10/10) as Global Work-Party with activities to mobilise political leaders for green solutions.

The activities would be part of the 350.org 10/10/10 Global Work Party campaign being run all over the world, aimed at sending out a political message, which is: “If we can get to work, political leaders can get to work too on the environment related legislations and associated treaties that will make all our work easier in the long run.”

In Dharamsala, the Tibetan Women Association will be organising a bicycle rally of over 30 participants. The rally will begin from McLeod Ganj main square to Bhagsu Nag. The cyclists will distribute informational fliers to private vehicle owners on their way. The objective of this activity is to not only increase citizen awareness of the emergency to bring the CO2 levels to safe limit: 350, but also to mobilise the people to use eco-friendly modes of transport. The Tibetan Settlement Office, Green Friends and The Mountain Cleaners have come together to organise mass clean ups in Bhagsu and McLeod Ganj.

Solar panel installations, cycle rallies, massive tree plantation drives, anti-litter campaigns are just some of the actions that organisations across India are working on. These activities are being coordinated by various organisations such as the Indian Youth Climate Network, etc and sole activists in alliance with 350 India.

10/10/10 will also see over 200 students participating in the Great Power Race, a clean energy competition between students in India, China and the United States and which is being co-organised by 350.org. Over 900 teams are implementing various climate and clean energy solution projects to enter a final judging round in late November.

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to the climate solutions that science and justice demand. 350 is named after the goal of reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere from its current level of 390 parts per million to below 350 ppm, the safe upper limit according to leading scientists.
