Shimla: It seems Israeli Agriculture councilor’s visit to the state has finally bore some fruits that are bound to taste sweet in the long run.  A group of progressive farmers and fruit growers of the State would visit Israel to learn advance farming and fruit cultivation techniques from the experts during the month of September for a week. This was revealed by State Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal after having meeting with visiting Dr. Avri Bar Zur, Agriculture Councillor in Embassy of Israel, here last evening.

He said that farmers in state were progressive by nature and adopt new techniques willingly to increase their farm yields. He said that it was the hard work put in by the farmers that Himachal Pradesh has universally been acknowledged as the ‘Apple State of India’. He also said that with diversified and modern techniques, the horticulture sector in the State would get a substantial boost. He said that it was due to the progressive nature of the farmers and fruit growers that apple was being cultivated in lower belts and mango in upper areas.
Expressing happiness that state schemes has benefited the growers, Mr. Zur appriciated the implementation of Kisan Bagwan Samridhi Yojna and polyhouses production in the state. He said that Israel had the expertise and know-how-in irrigation, industrial, agriculture and horticulture sectors and Himachal Pradesh could benefit from it. He also said that experts from Israel would be visiting Himachal Pradesh in the near future to share their experiences and give live demonstrations to the progressive farmers.

  1. this is great news. agriculture in Israel has always been very advanced and equally progressive. i just came back from a wine-making conference and we heard a lot about how the Israelis are doing a great job in growing quality grapes (in the Golan Heights region). the technologies they use and implement so successfully are a major factor in the high quality and generally quite full-filling yields. other very important factor, and this is a personal view, is the kibutz-structure (cooperative villages) that keeps things moving and in great harmony.
i hope HP farmers benefit from this exercise and the knowledge is passed out to as many farmers as possible on their return.

  3. What do you think we are also having such a Cooperative System in the state of H.P? I know that the Cooperative structure in farming can only bring wonders for this ignored community, but those who are entrusted with the job of making it a movement have become “Darogas”. They dont help motivate or farmers build Cooperatives , rather try to regulate  and discourage them. Thats the sad part.  See, it is the farmer who is not able to define the cost of his produce. Its the dirty market forces whict determine the rates/ cost of the agriculture produce. My view is that apart from searching such opportunities abroad or even in our country, the Govt must focus on building a Marketing Structure which is Farmer friendly and not Middlemen friendly.
