Shimla: Himachal High court on Friday reserved its verdict on the petition filed by Union minister for steel Virbhadra Singh seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him in the infamous CD case.
The FIR against Virbhadra was registered last year on the basis of a CD that allegedly had his voice, besides that of his wife.

The CD was released by former Congress minister Vijay Singh Mankotia in 2007 claiming it contained voice of Singh and his wife talking to retired IAS officer Mohinder Singh about alleged corruption. During the hearing, it was contended by Virbhadra Singh and his wife that the trial of the present case would amount to “abuse of the process of law as the same has been registered after 20 years of the alleged offence”. It was further contended that the case was registered on the basis of a CD whose origin was not known and the alleged conversation contained in the CD had allegedly taken place in the late 1980ies and beginning of the 1990.
At that point of time audio cassettes were in use and not the CD, the couple’s lawyer argued.

The state government argued that Vigilance Bureau had already completed investigations in the case and also intended to file the final report in the special court.
