To mourn Leh victims, Lahaul-Spiti suspends cultural programmes at tribal fair

Shimla: Lahaul-Spiti district administration suspended all cultural activities at the three-day tribal fair that began at Keylong form Saturday onward.

Showing solidarity with flood-hit victims of Leh sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir, the district administration suspended all programmes, information and public relation officer Shair Singh Thakur told HimVani over Phone. He said that they cannot go drum beating and dancing at a time when their friends were fighting devastation caused by flash flood.

Condemning TV reports highlighting suspension of I-Day function by the district administration in the wake of Leh devastation, Thakur said that the private channels had misquoted the administration, adding that the I-Day function was being organised in the district headquarter amid official grandeur today. He said local MLA and former minister Ram Lal Markendy hoisted the National Flag and took solute presented by the para-military, police, home guard and NCC contingents.

Singh said that the 475-km-long Manali-Leh highway restored for vehicular traffic on Saturday was reported disrupted again at a 15-km stretch between Sarchu pass and Leh doe to mudslides.
