Refused bribe, Uttarakhand cop throws driver into Yamuna river

Nahan: A police official from Uttarakhand posted at Kulhal barrier reportedly thrashed a truck driver when he was allegedly refused to pay bribe to him and later threw the injured driver into the swollen Yamuna river, Himachal Pradesh police said.

Kedarnath, a resident of Bali Kutti of Shillai tehsil under Sirmaur district, was taking his truck loaded with apples to Uttar Pradesh when the cop stopped him for checking at the HP-Uttarakhand border at Kulhal. The victim, after showing necessary documents, was allegedly asked by the policeman to pay him a bribe of Rs 250. The victim was beaten up when he could not meet the demand and throw into Yamuna river. He was rescued by others present there and was taken to a private hospital with multiple fractures.

When contacted, senior police superintendent from Uttarakhand GS Martoria said that the matter was being probed and the culprits would be punished as per law.
