Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government would urge the Central government to soon restore to the public prominent shrines which had been taken over by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to honour the sentiments of devotees.

This was stated by state Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while addressing a public meeting in the premises of renowned ancient Chaurassi Temple at Bharmaur. Dhumal said that it had been assumed that the ASI was neither restoring nor maintaining the taken-over shrines, hence the need for pressing upon the ASI to hand over the shrines has arisen.

He said that besides heritage and ancient status of such shrines, the shrines were devotionally and sentimentally very important for the state.
