Pilot project for preparing village carbon cards

Solan: A pilot project for conservation of environment and carbon neutrality has been awarded to Solan district. The project is to be executed in coordination with NGOs and voluntary organizations in the district.

Revealing this information, additional deputy commissioner Rakhil Kahlon said in a statement that in the first phase of the project NGO’s along with representatives of government departments would conduct pollution checks in 70 panchayats in five development blocks of the district.

She was presiding over a meeting of the district steering committee on implementation of the project. The teams will be equipped with pollution checking kits. Findings of the report will also be disclosed to the local panchayats to sensitize them towards conservation of environment and necessary steps to check pollution.

In the industrial belt of BBND three NGOs would be engaged for this purpose and to create awareness. After the first phase the entire district would be covered with provision of carbon card for each village and action plan for environment conservation and carbon neutrality. The carbon card will reflect environmental status of the village. This report will have comprehensive data regarding land holdings, number of cattle, availability of water, etc in the village. Organic farming will also be promoted during the project in the district.
