Kanda jail gets video-conferencing facility

Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Himachal Pradesh Chief Justice Kurian Joseph today jointly launched video conferencing facility at Model Central Jail, Kanda, in Shimla district.

Addressing the gathering, Dhumal said setting up of video conferencing in courts and jails was a priority for his government, terming it a “pre-conceived initiative”. He said that district courts in Bilaspur, Kullu Mandi and Kanda Jail, Bilaspur sub-jail and Mandi sub-jail had been connected with video conferencing facility. He said that Rs 33,50,754 had been spent on providing the video conferencing facilities in these district courts, jails and sub-jails. He said that the facility would save time and money and ensure easy disposal of cases in the courts.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Kurian Joseph said that the pace of deciding pending cases in the courts would be accelerated and also asked jail authorities to have sympathetic attitude towards the prisoners. He also released leaflet titled ‘Bandiyon Ke Kartavya Avam Kanuni Adhikar’ and presented a copy of the same to the Chief Minister.

E-Court is revolutionary step in the history of prosecution and Indian justice system as after commissioning of this facility the state police must be relieved from frequent escaping of hard core criminal form its custody and reduced the unnecessary crowd in congested courts which were remained thronged with number of people.

    The new enovation also help the judiciary to expedite hearing of criminal cases and reduce burden on the state exchequer for frequent court attendance of accused in tight security.
