Building collapses in Chamba district; widespread rain in state

Shimla: A double-storey building collapsed in Ayala village of Salouni sub-division in Chamba district overnight due to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the monsoon remained vigorously active in the state lashing many places with rainfall.

Report arriving from Chamba said that a house belonging to one Shivdayal collapsed as its foundation caved in after heavy rainfall in the area, rendering the affected family homeless.

The 5 mw hydroelectric project at Joiner Nallah on Janswain Khud was flooded by water, causing damage to the tune or Rs 1 crore as water accumulated in the Jbhdyali power house. In Bharmour sub-division of Chamba district, the 70 mw Budhal project was also ruined by flash-flood causing damage to the tune of Rs 1 crore as important installations of the project were buried under mud. This project was about to be commissioned and would now be delayed by at least a month, project director Bhatnagar Singh said.

Mandi town recorded highest 55 mm rain in the state today followed by Bhoranj with 25 mm, Sundernagar with 33 mm and Baldwara 11 mm and Sandhol 5 mm respectively. Rainfall also occurred in Baijnath of Kangra district received 21 mm rain, in Kullu district Bhuntar 11 mm and Seobagh 8 mm.

The met office said that rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during next 24 hours.
