Shimla: The future of many aspirants undergoing training at various private teaching colleges now seems uncertain as Himachal Pradesh government has suddenly decided to withdraw recognition to JBT-equivalent diploma courses. Recognition for such courses was granted by the education department on 15th December, 1983.

According to a state government spokesperson, the decision has been taken to maintain the quality of teachers in school. The government has clarified that only candidates completing the 2-year JBT training course or diploma from an institute affiliated with HP Board of School of Education (HPBSE) and admitted strictly on the basis of the common entrance test conducted by HPBSE, would be eligible for appointment as JBT teachers in the state.

St Bedes Girls College in Shimla also runs one such course, and is likely to be affect by the decision.
