Four Nepalis die; Cattle perish in flash flood

Kullu/Shimla: Five cattle heads perished in a flash flood caused due to cloud-burst at village Kotaage in Kais panchayat of this district, about ten kilometres from Kullu last night. 15 families were affected while the slush and debris damaged their houses.

Deputy Commissioner BM Nanta said that a team of district administration immediately rushed to the village and supervised rescue work. He said blankets and tarpaulins were distributed to the affected families. Local MLA Govind Singh Thakur also visited the village and expressed sympathies with the affected families. Meanwhile, the DC called upon people living on the banks of rivers and nullahs to be vigilant during monsoons and advised power project managements to shift labour huts to safer places in the district.

In another incident, four Nepali labourers were killed when a pick-up jeep carrying them rolled down in 70-meter-deep gorge on Friday afternoon in Kinnaur while it was on its way to Tapri from Ramlijhula. The deceased were identified Kedar Prasad, Rajinder Malah, Suraj Bisa and Bhim Lama. All of them were working with a private contractor.
