Cloud burst causes devastation in Sirmaur village

Shimla/ Nahan: After remaining dormant for last three days, the monsoon rains were back in Himachal Pradesh causing devastation due to a cloud burst in Bohlion village on Nahan district, washing away standing crops, killing two dozen livestock and rendering many people homeless in the affected area.

According to report received from Nahan, about 72 people were rendered homeless as their houses and other essential material buried were under debris in the affected area. Deputy commissioner Padam Singh Chauhan said that he would be sending officials to watch the situation and financial help would also be provided if needed.

Heavy rains also caused landslides at Nahan, Nahan-Renuka, Renuka-Sataun, Nahan-Paonta Bagthan-Rajgarh roads, which blocked traffic for hours together. According to the met office, Nahan recorded highest 177 mm rain, while Pachhad and Sangrah receded 110 mm and 90 mm rainfall respectively.

There are report of rainfall from Hamirpur where Sujanpur TIra received 104 mm rainfall. In Kangra district Palampur recorded 62 mm rainfall, Dharamsala, Baijnath and Nurpur 55 mm each; In Mandi district the main town experienced 70 mm rainfall, Pandoh 36 mm and Sundernagar 32 mm. Despite being engulfed in thick fog and cloud, the capital town received negligible rainfall. The Met office has forecast widespread rainfall in most places during the next 48 hours.
