British national Jodie Under Hill felicitated with Green Award in Himachal

British national Jodie Under Hill, popularly known as garbage girl today conferred with a green award for running “Mountain Cleaners Campaign”, a voluntary organization that collects  waste left behind by the tourists in Dharamshala hills.

Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Gulab Singh Thakur felicitated the recipient with Green award inaugurating three day environment film festival organized by Centre for Media Studies (CMS) Vatavaran at historic Gaiety Theater here today.

Hailing the cause of Jodie and her team, Mr Thakur said leaving behind garbage at tourist destinations was become a bane for the hills. Acknowledging the contribution of unique move Thakur observed that cleaner and greener hills were the very basis of sustaining tourism in the region.

Speaking in the function, 34 years old Jodie expressed her concern over gradual turning of the glacial water bodies into garbage dumps. She announced her next plans for adopting another hill after Dharamshala for clearing waste.  Terming the “Mountain Cleaners campaign” a success, she assured to replicate the similar efforts for high altitude Manimahesh lake in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh where the trash left by growing number of pilgrims and tourists mounting rapidly.
