Shimla: Himachal state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has announced to observe statewide ‘bandh’ on July 5 to protest against the Union government’s decision to hike prices of petroleum products. The protest actions will be in the form of a ‘hartal’ from dawn to dusk in which everything would be brought to a halt throughout the state, a press statement said. However, essential services like supply of water, milk, electricity, hospital and emergency services will be exempted from the hartal.

CPIM has stated that Himachal Pradesh would be severely affected by the hike in prices of petroleum products, especially diesel as all transportation of essential commodities to the remotest areas of the state is done by road.
