‘Campaign Reservation Express’ reaches Shimla

Shimla: ‘Campaign Reservation Express’, an awareness march on Women reservation Bill, arrived in Shimla this afternoon and was welcomed by members of AIDWA (All India Women Association) and Gain Vigain Samiti.

Addressing media persons at WYCA, Mansi Sharma, leader of the campaign, informed that Anhad, an anti-communal riots wing of women and NFIW (National Federation of Indian Women) along with women wing of CPI initiated the campaign aiming to garner support for the much delayed and debated “Women Reservation Bill” from various women organization and also to sensitizes them about the issue. She said that they met with large number of women networks, organizations and civil society groups and received overwhelming response form people across north India.

Sharma added that 25,000 printed post cards addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are being distributed to people in this campaign so that they can post singed post cards to the PM in order to build up pressure on the UPA government. She said that the campaign would now move forward to Nahan, followed by Dehradoon.

Annie Raja, general secretary of NFIW, said that the issue of women reservation was highlighted by late Gita Mukharjee, Member of Parliament from Madhanipur, West Bengal. She said that Mukharji raised this issue for the first time 14 years ago in the Parliament and now all women forgetting parochial political interest are supporting the Bill inside and outside Parliament.
