Shimla: Due to heavy snowfall and insistent rain in the tribal belt of Himachal Pradesh, Killar-Kishtwar road remained blocked for the second day today, dislodging territorial link with Jammu & Kashmir, senior official told HimVani.

Resident commissioner Pangi, Gopal Chand, told HimVani over phone that Darwas bridge was washed away by flash flood on Friday night, disconnected the state from Jammu & Kashmir and three panchayat of the valley. Road connectivity between Killar (some 170 kms from Chamba) and Kishtwar has also been blocked at several points due to massive landslides.

Chand said that snowline areas, particularly passes, received heavy snowfall and rain, which hampered the process of opening the road. He said that Udiapur-Killar road has been cleared between Sirso and Shawan, however it still closed for traffic toward Udiapur in Lahaul Spiti district.

Another communication link with Jammu and Kashmir is the Keylong-Leh road, which has not so far been restored. Due to heavy snowfall on the passes, the hope of early opening of Leh road, which was earlier targeted for May 23, is expected to be delayed.
