Five policemen get burn injuries in Rohru

Shimla: Five policemen got burn injuries on Tuesday when they tried to prevent a group of protesters to burn an effigy in Himachal Pradesh, police said.

Superintendent of police RM Sharma told HimVani that five police personnel got burn injuries when they tried to prevented activists of Youth Congress from burning an effigy of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at Rohru yesterday. He said the activists were staging a protest against poor health conditions in the town. “As the protesters tried to burn the effigy, the policemen intervened and in the meantime one of the protesters ignited the effigy, which resulted in burn injuries mainly to the policemen,” he said.

One of the seriously injured has been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital here. Eyewitnesses said the effigy contained highly combustible material. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and started investigations.
