Rohtang tunnel project work from next month

Shimla: Construction work on the ambitious 8.80 km Rohtang tunnel would take off from June this year, and February 2015 had been set as the completion deadline.

This was stated by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in a meeting with PK Mahajan, chief engineer, Rohtang Tunnel Project. The CM said that it was a dream project of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who had sanctioned the project for the benefit of people living in Lahaul. He said that total project cost had been estimated at Rs 1,458 crore and with the completion of the project, Kullu-Manali valley and Lahaul valley would be interconnected through an 8.80 km long, 10 meters wide, double-laned tube providing year-around access.
