Thundershowers, hailstorms lash parts of Himachal

Shimla: Thundershowers and hailstorm lashed many parts of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours, slightly thinning the bumper apple crop in the state. Report arriving here from various part of the state stated that thundershowers lashed at Hamirpur town, recording 7 mm rainfall, while Mehre and Aghar area of the district and Theog of Shimla recorded 6 mm each. In Una district, Amb had 5 mm rain, Ghumarwin in Bilaspur, Jhungi in Kullu, Kotkhai in Shimla & Sangla in Kinnuar had 4 mm each, Una 3 mm and Kalpa 2.8 mm, respectively.

There are reports that hailstorm slightly affected bumper apple floral buds in the apple growing areas of Kullu and Shimla districts. However, fresh rain showers gave some respite from the heat wave as the capital town registered a maximum at 26.4 degree Celsius, compared to 27.9 degrees yesterday; Sundernagar was at 35.4 degrees as compared to 35.9 degree the previous day. Dharamshala recorded a high of 34.8 degree Celsius, Buntar 32 degrees and Kalpa 16.4 degrees, respectively.
Una recorded a maximum at 37.6 degree Celsius as compared to 41 degrees of y’day, Mandi 36 degrees, Nahan 35.6 degrees and Solan 32 degrees, respectively.

The Met office said that rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated parts of high reaches in the state.
