First bio-tech university of India inaugurated near Solan

Tatool (Solan): India’s first bio-technology university was inaugurated here on Sunday by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.

Named after the local goddess of Solan, Shoolini University is being set up by NRI industrialist Ramesh K Mehan and renowned professor Dr P K Khosla of Solan. Chief Minister while addressing people on this occasion said that his government had set up India’s first IT university at Waknaghat in its previous term and now by setting up a BT university, the state would lead the nation in new-age higher education. He said that because of excellent climate and environment, Himachal is an ideal place for developing education hubs. He said that education sector has the potential to bring huge investments to the state while preserving the environment.

Ramesh K Mehan, chancellor, Shoolini University, in his welcome address lauded the efforts of state government to privatize the higher education on the line of private universities like Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, etc. Mehan is a leading NRI entrepreneur from USA, who has roots in Himachal Pradesh.

Presenting an overview of Shoolini University, Chairman Prof PK Khosla said that the state needs to equip its next generation with learning opportunities that will help them face the competitive world. He said their aim would be to create a center of world-wide repute in bio-science specializing in developing technology and knowledge relevant to the Himalayas and Himachal Pradesh.
