Cabinet sub-committee deliberates on new TCP Act

Shimla: A cabinet sub-committee meeting was held here today to finalize the Town and Country Planning Act-2009 under the chairmanship of Public Works Minister Thakur Gulab Singh. The Act would replace the existing Himachal Pradesh Town and Country Planning Act-1997.

While addressing the meeting, Thakur said that a long-term plan would also be implemented to ensure planned development of rural areas of the state so that the pristine glory of the state could be maintained. He said that it should be ensured that any commercial establishments such as hotel, vocational and technical educational institutions, health institutions and commercial complexes were constructed as per the specifications of the Act.

He said that the School Education Board and education department should strictly ensure that school buildings were constructed ensuring all safety measures. The PWD minister said that planned construction would be carried out alongside the roads so as to avoid any traffic congestion besides maintaining natural grandeur of the state. He said that ample parkings would also be constructed in Shimla town so as to facilitate the tourists as well as local commuters.
