Dharamsala: While the Met department has predicted turbulent weather in Dharamsala after April 15, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association is doing what the local population here does to protect their crops from nature’s fury – please the rain gods with prayers and offerings. Once known to be among the wettest places in the country, the town these days has to beg for timely rains from the gods, but HPCA wants them to do exactly the opposite. Today, HPCA organised a yajna at the Indrunag temple near Khaniara (dedicated to the rain god) to seek heavenly cooperation in keeping rains away during the two matches to be played here on April 16 and 18.

The yajna itself turned out to be a gala affair with over 2,000 people turned up for the event, most of them locals lured by the ‘bhandara’. Among HPCA officer bearers who attended the `puja’ included HPCA PRO Sanjay Sharma and former BJP MP Kripal Parmar, who is vice-president of HPCA.

While right now the weather is clear and pleasant in the town, it can be very unpredictable at times as it happened during the match between Pakistan and Indian Board President XI a year back, as the march was completely washed out.
