Oppn demands probe into assault on Solan ZP chairman

Shimla: Opposition Congress today sought A probe into alleged assault on Solan zila parishad chairman Ram Kumar, who was injured along with others on March 30 at Nalagarh in Solan district after clash between two group.

Soon after the Question Hour, Kaul Singh Thakur (Darang-Cong) raised this matter by bringing a ‘call attention motion’ under rule 62 in the House. Thakur alleged that Kumar was coming from Mohali in Punjab when RTO Solan Raman Singh asked him to stop his vehicle and some miscreants accompanying him brutally attacked Kumar, who had to be rushed to Nalagarh civil hospital. He said that the mater was serious and the government should order a judicial inquiry into this incident.

Opposition leader Vidya Stoke also spoke on this issue and demanded probe by a retired high court judge, alleging that it was an attack not only on Kumar, but also on people’s representatives by antisocial elements. Speaking on this issue, Vinod Chandel (Doon-BJP) alleged that Kumar along with some goons tried to get some overloaded trucks stopped by the RTO for checking released. ‘‘But when the RTO did not listen to them, Kumar and others attacked the RTO. She also alleged that Kumar was involved in illegal mining in Sarsa river. She said that being member of the Vidhan Sabha she had also raised the issue in the past as well.

BJP members Randhir Sharma (Kotkhailor) and Govind Ram (Arki) also spoke on this issue and alleged that the incident was a deliberate effort to disturb the congenial atmosphere in the industrial area so that new investments do not come in the belt.

Later, replying to the call attention motion, Chief Minister Prem Kumar said that government was not favouring anyone and both parties were being booked with similar charges without discrimination. He said the government was ready for any probe. When the opposition further insisted on an inquiry by a retired judge of high court, the Chief Minister assured that the government was even ready to ask a retired Supreme Court to prove the matter, but not without verifying the facts.
