Shimla: State transport minister Mahinder Singh Thakur on Friday said that owing to some administrative compulsions, Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has cancelled interviews of 1,800 bus conductors who were to be recruited in the Corporation.

Replying to a joint question by Congress members Mukesh Agnihotri and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the transport minister said that HRTC was running in losses amounting to Rs 512 crore. “For the compensation of such huge losses, some immediate administrative reforms were being initiated in the corporation. The Corporation would now recruit bus- shayaks in place of conductors. These bus-shayaks would work on commission basis and would cost cheaper to the Corporation,” he said. He said that after July 2009, 526 drivers have been recruited in the department. “Till the end of this year, the Corporation would be having 460 and 500 vacant posts of drivers and conductors, respectively,” he said.

Replying to another question by Congress member Rajesh Dharmani, Mahinder Singh said that the government has a proposal regarding construction of a parking lot near Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla. “We have selected land for the parking building, and land acquisition work is under process. The government has also appointed a consultant to prepare the master plan for the building,” he said. He informed that the capacity of this five-floor parking would be around 375 vehicles and this building would be prepared on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

Health minister Rajiv Bindal said that the central government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for CRI Kasauli in the budget plans for the year 2010-11. He said that the drug manufacturing license of CRI Kasauli was cancelled by the health department on January 1, 2008.
The health minister said this while replying to a question by Congress member Kaul Singh Thakur.
