Kaul Singh corners govt on corruption charges

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Congress president Kaul Singh Thakur today charged the state government of diluting the provisions of Section 118 of Land Reforms and Tenancy Act to benefit certain vested interest by going against its real spirit and, demanded a probe into reports of certain ministers being involved in illegal property deals.

Participating in the debate on budget proposals for the year 2010-11 in the state Assembly, Thakur said that “land mafia” was active in the state, and there were talks in the public about link of few ministers in land deals. “The government should immediately probe such charges to bring the truth before the public,” he said. He attacked health minister Rajiv Bindal for compromising with corruption by reinstating former state drug controller Sher Singh, who was facing cases of corruption. “It has come to my knowledge that Sher Singh was reinstated by the health minister against the recommendation of the chief minister and secretary (Law),” he said.

Kaul Singh accused the government for under-assessing the value of 96 bighas of land given to Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, for setting up their yogpeeth in Solan district. “I request the government not to sell the land for peanuts. Yogpeeth is now a commercial organisation that is selling their products in the market and is having turnover of crores. The government should have charged more for the land,” he said.
