Shimla: A one-year-old fully grown leopard intruded into the heart of the capital town this morning, created fury and panic among the locals as it was witnessed by a number of people freely scouting in the historic Ranijhansi Park here, and then in the backyard of Bhakar Niwas near Naza.

Veterinary officer of this town, Sandeep Rattan, said they received a call in the noon that a leopard had intruded into the Ranijhansi park and a team of wildlife and veterinary officers immediately rushed to the spot. He said the leopard hid itself in the backyard of nearby houses after it was disturbed by the movement of people in the park and later appeared in the backyard of Bhakra Niwas near Naza.

He said they successfully tranquilized the leopard, adding that it seemed it lost way and wrongly made an entry into the town. He said after tranquilizing the leopard it was taken to the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Tutikandi, located on the outskirts of the town, where it would be examined further.

After hearing about a leopard having entered the town, huge crowds of local people and tourists gathered at the spot to have a glimpse but it was immediately packed in a huge bag and carried away in a police jeep.
