Scholarships to 9,000 meritorious students

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government will give scholarships to 9,000 meritorious and deserving students at senior secondary school to enable them pursue studies. This was stated by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumalon the occasion of Satpal Mittal National Award ceremony organized by Nehru Sidhant Kendra Trust to commemorate the 120th birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of India late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru at Ludhiana in Punjab today.

The Chief Minister said that the state had provided a model relief and rehabilitation package to the martyrs of Operation Vijay in Kargil. He said that the sacrifice made by such families would not go waste and will be remembered for all the time to come. He appealed to well off families to contribute a part of their income to help the needy especially vulnerable sections of the society to make their life reasonably comfortable which was a real service towards the society.

The Chief Minister said that state government had started Rs 10,000 annual scholarships to the topper SC students in plus one and two under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Thakur Sen Negi Scholarship for tribal students. He said that scholarships had helped some of the talented and deserving students to continue with their studies.
