Cong loses Rohru, BJP Jawali in by-poll

Shimla: It was a 1-1 draw between Congress and BJP in the Himachal Pradesh by-election as both the parties managed to wrest each other’s previous seat. While the Congress lost Rohru to BJP, which has been its bastion for the last two decades, BJP lost the Jawali seat to Congress.
Khushi Ram Balnahta was declared winner in Rohru defeating Manjit Thakur of Congress by 8,473 votes. Balnahta polled 27,705 votescompared to 19,232 by Manjit. In Jawali, Sujjan Singh Pathania of Congress defeated Baldev Raj Chaudhary of BJP by 5,249 votes. While the Rohru seat was earlier represented by Virbhadra Singh, Rajan Sushant of BJP had vacated the Jawali seat after he moved to the Parliament in May.
