Shimla: Sujjan Singh Pathania will be Congress candidate from Jawali while Manjit Thakur will contest on Congress ticket from Rohru for the by-elections being held in these constituencies on November 7.
Steel minister Virbhadra SIngh’s wife Pratibha Singh was denied the ticket even as she had lately said that she was not interested in contesting due to some ‘personal problems.’ Sources said her decision not to contest the elections at the last minute was a face-saving exercise as she was reportedly told that she would not get the ticket.
Earlier state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur had said that Pratibha Singh has applied for the ticket and the request had been forwarded to the party high command.

Manjit Thakur is a former Virbhadra loyalist who had put forth his application for the ticket directly before the Pradesh congress committee in defiance of block Congress committee recommendation.
He will face BJP’s Khushi Ram Balnahta in Rohru, while Sujjan Singh Pathania will face Baldev Raj Choudhary in Jawali.

  1. I think Mr. Pathania will have an edge over the new BJP candidate in Jawali constituency. BJP's new face Mr. Choudhary may get advantage of HP's caste politics. The constituency will feel the absence of decades long duet between Mr. Pathania and Dr. Sushant. Anyway speaking neutrally none of the parties (congress or BJP) has done anything commendable for the constituency (Jawali) except a few transfers here and there which are again a part and parcel of HP politics.
