Shimla: A fortnight ahead of the by-election to two assembly seats, the Himachal Pradesh government today approved timber distribution (TD) draft rules for restoration of timber rights, besides extending pensionary benefits to 1.12 lakh retired employees.

With the notification of fresh TD rules, persons allotted land after relaxation of Section 118 of HP Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972 would be eligible for TD rights. As per new rules, BPL families will pay only 10% of the market value while others will pay 30% of the market value of wood under TD rights distribution. Urban dwellers continue to be excluded from TD Rights.

The government also approved pensionary benefits with effect from 1st January, 2006, in accordance with the revised central pension rules.
