Nurpur: Following the Himachal Pradesh government enacting the Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Bill, 2009, the first major ragging complaint has emerged from Ambota Polytechnic in Gagrat where eight students have reportedly been suspended even as a probe is being carried out by the college’s anti-ragging committee.

According to sources, the complaint was made on Saturday and the administration had first termed it as a matter of breech of discipline. After a formal complaint was made, a probe was ordered. The suspended students are said to have alleged victimisation. Sources claimed that earlier too first year and second year students had clashed over some issue.

The new law provides for punishment including jail term of three years and a fine up to Rs 50,000.
