Shimla: The Bharatiya Janata Party has shifted the venue of its ‘Chintan Baithak’ from the HIPA complex to Peterhoff hote, which is within the city. State BJP organising secretary Mahendra Pandey attributed the change of venue to certain “logistical problems including over 100 stairs in HIPA, which many leaders, due to their age, may find difficult to climb”. The conclave will start from August 19.

Around 25 participants, with the average age of 60, including L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh, 58, were to stay at the institute’s hostel, about 12 km from the main town near Mashobra, earlier for the conclave which would decide the party’s future roadmap after the loss in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Citing the same reason, besides security concerns, state BJP President Khimi Ram said the Baithak will now be held at the hotel of HP Tourism Development Corporation which is less than a km from the state assembly in the main town.

The Peterhoff hotel had in 2003 hosted the ‘Chintan and Manthan Baithak’ of Congress, that was attended by its top leaders including Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.
